2002 Racing Season

2002 would turn out to be Ricky's last year racing.

In the March 2nd race at Las Vegas Ricky was injured and required shoulder surgery, he returned May 3rd for the race at Richmond International Raceway but ultimately retired on October 10th 2002 citing physical and mental health reasons.

Ricky step into a car ownership role and developing upcoming talent like Brian Vickers, Kyle Busch and others. Vickers would step into Ricky's car in 2003 and win the NASCAR Busch Series Championship.
